Saturday night the 26th we stayed in Henrietta, NY at a Sam's Club. Sunday we drove for about 5 hrs and ended up in Mentor, Oh where we stayed at a WalMart. Monday morning (Memorial Day) we got up and drove 3 miles down the road to visit James Garfield's home. This is a National Historic Site that is run by the National Park Service. James Garfield was elected 20th president of the U.S. in November 1880. He was inaugurated in March 1881. He was president for only 200 hundred days, 80 of those days was spent in bed dying from a gunshot wound. He was assassinated by Charles Guiteau, a political fanatic. Garfield died September 19th. His house was originally a 1 room cottage. When Garfield bought the house, it had been expanded to 4 rooms. He moved here with his wife, Lucrecia and their 5 children along with James mother. Later Lucrecia's father moved in with them. So then 9 people were living in this 4 room house. Throughout the years the Garfields expanded the house to an impressive 20 room, 2 1/2 story home. After his death, Lucretia remained here with her family and continued to do repairs and expansions with the help of contributions from the American public. I have posted a few pictures of the house and grounds.

Today we went to Cleveland to see the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What an outstanding museum. The place is huge. Six floors of memorabilia. Took a full day to see it all. Unfortunately couldn't take any pictures inside. Only got a picture of the Beatles guitar on the outside of the building. Sorry, guess you'll have to take a trip and see it yourself. It was another great day.

ALASKA BOUND----May 26, 2012
Well the day has finally arrived. We have been planning this trip for about 8 months now. We left Middleboro, Ma this morning at 7AM. Stopped at Joe's Gas Station to top off the fuel and grab a bagel for the road. We are now on our way. We will be taking approximately 6 weeks to get to Great Falls, Mt where we will join a 60 day trip with Adventure Caravans to the Calgary Stampede and Alaska. We will be leaving Great Falls on July 11th and our tour finishes on Sept 7th in Prince George, BC. From there we don't know for sure what our route will be. Probably won't be back home until the end of October.
We will be driving for 2 days to our first destination. We will be visiting Ohio for 4 to 5 days. Lots to see and do there. I will try to post along with some pictures (won't bore you with all of them) as often as I can.
Hope you enjoy our journey with us.
