THE ROUGE, FORD FACTORY TOUR....JUNE 5, 2012

Well our dear friend Harry is having his cataract surgery today so Jesse and I decided to go back into Dearborn, Mi to the Ford Factory tour where they assemble Ford F-150 trucks. It is called The Rouge Center. Mr Ford acquired 2000 acres along the  Rouge River in 1915. His goal was to be completely self-sufficient. By the late 1920's he produced virtually every part for the Model T automobile. The Rouge, at its peak,  had 93 buildings---15,767,708 square feet of floor space and 120 miles of conveyors.

At its peak in the 1930's,  the Rouge employed more than 100,000 people. Today it employs about 6,000 people in 5 plants. It is Fords largest single industrial  complex.

The F-150 plant runs two 10 hour shifts a day 7 days a week.  Each shift produces 600 trucks per shift. This was a great tour.

Following are some of the autos that have been manufactured over the years at this factory.
